[ clearly with the announcement, or well, "announcement" that went out earlier about what kind of "game" they would be playing this time around didn't exactly put anyone into a good mood. they were all suspicious to begin with but having all of that information out there laid bare? nice. glad everyone is angry and tired and various other emotions.
anyway, it's why the three of them are here in the forest (clearly ignoring any words of caution and all signs that things will not go well for them) and standing in front of a decrepit cabin. sometimes you want to play by the rules and most times, in these times, you find yourself seeing what can be pushed.
which is more that can be said about the door as it's not going anywhere after giyuu's pushed (knocked??) on it. thanks door :) ]
Why would something like this be all the way out here?
[ The fog and the strange, distant noises(?) make for an oppressive atmosphere as they move deeper in the forest. It doesn't help that things have been tense at camp, Evan's death fresh in their minds and all the new 'rules' leaving them scrambling to figure out the truth.
But there's plenty of new ground to cover now, and they can't waste any time exploring it. So here they are, at this strange new cabin. Dimitri steps up beside Giyuu, who has already tried the more polite approach. He adds, ]
Hello—?
[ But when he gets no response, he hits the lock with the butt of his spear none too gently.
...To no result. Hm. ]
I'm not certain, but if there's a lock... there must be something of value inside.
[ The "game" sucks, and even if you have to play it, you still want to smash it into smithereens. That's Shinobu's current mood. It's clouding some of her usually more clear judgment.
The music? song? noise? does nothing to help this. ]
The fog is at least less thick than when I first tried to walk through it. There was no visibility, then, so perhaps it's waiting to be found by someone determined enough.
[ ie. them.
Honestly, it could be a trap, but sometimes, risk is a necessity. Answers don't come from doing nothing. She raises a bandaged hand. ]
Please move aside. I will attempt to kick the door down.
[ She is so small and her physical strength is lacking in comparison to both of them, but she's going to do it anyway. ]
Please pardon my intrusion!
[ She calls out cheerfully before pivoting and slamming her foot into the door. ]
Shinobu pivots to deliver a kick to the door — but she never makes contact! Instead, the door swings open a split second before her foot would have slammed against the door. Unfortunately, this means that she is totally eating shit and landing inside the cabin. Pitch black darkness is all that greets them as the music that has been playing this whole time comes to an abrupt stop. Although the door is open, none of the light from outside filters in.
[ "pardon my intrusion" she says just before kicking the door in...
or would be kicking the door in if that was allowed given how it just opens out of the blue? it doesn't even seem like there's anything immediately behind it which is great and, he guesses, to be expected when it comes to this sort of thing. if this whole place is here to mess with them, why wouldn't it do something like this?
at the same time, instincts and reactions die hard and giyuu will reach out to, catch shinobu before she goes completely into the cabin itself. or, maybe, soften shinobu's fall...except there she just goes. right into the cabin. a cabin that has no light filtering inside of it despite the door being open. ]
Kocho—!
[ quickly to turning to dimitri. ]
Come on, Dimitri.
[ and like that, giyuu is not wasting a single moment or another thought to go into the dark cabin after shinobu. if there wasn't anything of value inside before there is now. ...to him anyway. ]
[ the noise stutters to a sudden halt as shinobu flies through the door. or the door... lets her fly through it? there is no sound of impact of a foot to wood, just her landing on the ground.
it's dark, but that isn't enough to stop either of them from barging in after her. there's not a moment spared before they're both inside. ]
What on earth...
[ he's tense, alert in the dark—but he instinctively looks for some light by the doorway. maybe one of those newfangled light switches? ]
[ Shinobu tumbles in, the very picture of grace as she eats shit. She picks herself off the ground, and if she weren't already annoyed, she's even more so now.
Her eyes try to adjust to the darkness, and she takes a few more careful steps into the room. Even though she often works at night, she says: ]
I wish we had a lantern.
[ In her hand materializes one of those light up LED ice cubes, but it's off and she doesn't know what it is, so it's absolutely useless right now.
[The thing is, if they're simply looking, they won't see shit. It's too dark inside the cabin to spot a convenient lightswitch via sight alone.
Which is, you know, bad considering the fact that the door slams shut behind them as soon as they're all inside. They will hear the sound of the lock clicking a second later.
but as soon as the door shuts and locks, it really does start to become clear as to what they're expecting—should be expecting here. which, you know, given how giyuu (somehow) made it through his mini-event being in the dark, he has. ]
These places have a habit of enjoying toying with us.
[ he'll start feeling around for anything that might feel like those switches and the like..? carefully, of course, as he walks until he can feel a wall? hopefully it's a wall and not something awful. ]
[ unfortunately, he can't see what shinobu is holding. but he does hear the tell-tale sound of a lock trapping them inside. his shoulders hop up in surprise, tensing, but he sets to work immediately, groping blindly in the dark, following the doorframe for some sort of switch and working his way out from there. it's a slow process he's trying not to trip over himself, or... whatever might be on the floor.
if not a switch, maybe he can find a window curtain to pull back, at least. ]
Be careful, everyone.
[ at least they can use their voices to locate each other, but they're not going to get far in the dark. ]
[ LISTEN, she doesn't know what it is, but since she has something new in her hands, she angles herself so she's not facing either Giyuu or Dimitri based on their voices. Next, she throws the item through the air in front of her to see hear how long it is before it'll hit anything.
Maybe it'll hit something and light up, or maybe they'll just stay in darkness forever. ]
[Cool! So here is what will happen when the gang does... these things.
1. Giyuu will take a couple of steps forward before he walks right into something solid. It is most definitely not a wall, because it hits him right in his mid-section. There is no way to tell what it is, but it is horizontal and flat.
2. As Dimitri feels up the wall to the left of the door, he will eventually find something that feels like a lightswitch. Will he flip it?
3. Shinobu tosses the cube to the right, and it takes 2.63 seconds to hear it smack against a solid surface. It sounds a little hollow when it makes contact, and something will gently creak in response.
[ is it a table? hopefully it's a table and nothing worse but who knows! giyuu's luck is terrible and this is what he deserves.
either way, the irony of this all is that he'll likely have walked right into it shortly after dimitri tells everyone to be careful. thumbs up for giyuu who just lets out a noise that's part grunt and part "oof"...and maybe a soft curse as a treat.
he's really should comment about the other noise he hears but doesn't because...well. whatever horizontal flat thing he ran into, which he is also now feeling. ...maybe pushing against? ]
[ as giyuu bumps into a table(?) or devoured by a mimic etc, dimitri pauses briefly at all the other hullabaloo. but his hand finds the 'switch' soon enough, and he dutifully flips it. ]
Found something—
[ hopefully, that helps rather than hurts them. his other hand is at his back, careful in case he needs to draw his dagger.
[Luckily for them, what Dimitri finds is a fully functional lightswitch! The lights flicker on, illuminating the room and allowing them to get a sense of what they're dealing with.
Namely, it seems like they've wandered into a kitchen-slash-dining room. The door they walked through is smackdab in the center of the southern wall. All the kitchen appliances and furniture are to the left of the door. This includes a refrigerator, kitchen counters, a sink, a stove top, toaster oven, and cabinets. Directly in front of the door, just a couple of paces away, is a wooden dining room table with matching chairs on both the left side and right side, for a total of four chairs. Giyuu walked right into the side of the table when he shuffled his way deeper into the room. The table budges easily once he pushes it, and he's close enough to notice there are a couple of things on top of the table.
Meanwhile, Shinobu will find herself walking towards a door on the right side. It is slightly open, but not enough to see what's on the other side. The cube lays innocently on the floor a step or two away from it; it likely bounced back on contact. On the wall directly opposite to the front door (as, in the one they all walked through when entering), is yet another door. This one is closed.
Beyond that, the room isn't particularly furnished or anything. It seems like it has seen some recent use, judging by the lack of dust or cobwebs, but it's a little dirty in the way that suggests someone has neglected to sweep and mop the floors regularly. For shame.]
[ the sudden shine of light from pitch darkness is enough to have giyuu take a second to adjust but when he does, he'll slowly take in what they've found. or, at the very least, what is in front of him.
...what is in front of him??? is it safe to touch? are they unsavory things? ]
Good job, Dimitri.
[ now, where are they? aside from an obviously abandoned cabin in the woods. (hah) ]
[ the light doesn't immediately answer much—it looks like some sort of residential cabin? hard to say when the last time someone was here though, which is odd. he nods when Giyuu addresses him, though it's too early to say they've accomplished anything. ]
This cabin seems more furnished than our own... I wonder who it was built for.
[ since he's next-closest, he'll wander over to the kitchen and observe the condition of the appliances there, dagger quietly scraping free of its scabbard as he opens the cabinets. ]
It doesn't look like it's abandoned, so we may be trespassing.
[ They are absolutely trespassing, and it's rich of her to say that when she tried to kick the door down mere minutes ago, but if Shinobu cared about the law, she wouldn't have a sword. ]
There seems to be another room over here. I'm going to take a look.
[ She scoops up the cube before she moves to push (pull? IS IT A PUSH OR PULL DOOR) open that slightly ajar door. ]
[There is nothing unsavory on the table! Whew. Giyuu will find an empty bottle of some sort of drink, as well as some stray coloring and drawing supplies, a keyring with no keys, and a few sheets of paper with something doodled on them.
In the kitchen, the appliances have clearly seen some use. There are crumbs in the toaster oven, and drops of water lingering inside the sink. Dimitri can open the cabinets. The first cabinet he opens carries a set of chipped cups, plates and bowls. The next one has some... unusual pantry items. By which we mean someone herehas a reallyunbalanced diet.
Love that these ye oldes will not know what the fuck half of these things are.
Meanwhile, Shinobu will find herself pushing the door and walking right into a bathroom. It's a relatively small space, equipped with a shower, a toilet, a sink and a mirror. There's no cabinet. Like the dining room-slash-kitchen, it doesn't seem abandoned. Just a little dirty.]
[ a single good thing to happen clearly giyuu will pick up the drink and examine it because the only green thing he knows in terms of drinking is green tea but it isn't like—this kind of green. is it even safe to drink? should he even open the bottle?
likely not but he's going to hang onto it because dunno...maybe it's helpful. bottle stashed away into his sleeves, he's going to look at the doodles—anything particularly interesting on them? or will it be more garbage they won't understand. ]
If it isn't empty, then perhaps we can have some questions answered if someone shows up.
[ also hello dimitri, giyuu will eventually wander over his direction. ]
[ love this for them. dimitri takes a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos as evidence. that goes into his jacket. with how used everything is, it does make sense that maybe they can expect some company eventually. ]
Perhaps so, though I'm not sure they'd be pleased at us barging in like this.
[ he steps carefully through the kitchenette, giving it another once-over before checking the fridge? he'll wait to hear from shinobu before barging into the next room. quietly, thinking aloud, ]
Though there was music playing before... and the door opened on its own.
[The bottle is empty. Even if Giyuu wanted to drink it, he will find it impossible to do so on account that there's nothing inside. Enjoy the nifty green bottle, though! As for the doodle, they are all of the same vein. Unfortunately for Giyuu, while he will be able to understand what is on the bottom of the pages, the drawings themselves will be nigh incomprehensible to him. Not because they're crudely drawn, but because his mind simply cannot make sense of what he's looking at. His vision will blur the longer he looks at the doodles themselves, and he will start to feel dizzy and faint. Maybe it's a good idea to put those down.
In the kitchen, dimitri will find that the lower half of the refrigerator is filled with nothing but these. From top to bottom. Hm.
There is nothing in the shower or sink, but they do have a few drops of water in them. The sink works when Shinobu twists one of the knobs.]
[ he'll enjoy the green bottle??? it might jog someone else's mind instead of his, which is all rather nice until he comes up upon the drawing because wow!! that's lovely. he is going to make An Attempt at understanding what he's looking at but when he starts to feel dizzy and almost faint that's gonna be a no go and he'll peel his eyes away from it.
however, if you think just because there's a piece of paper that makes him lose his vision and guess his ability to stand, it would stop him from swiping them off the table then you'd be wrong. he'll look away from them as he folds it up and puts them also into his sleeves.
though this also means his "wandering" towards dimitri ends up being more like a wobble. it's fine? he'll make attempts to shake it off and walk it off. ]
It's not as though we wanted to be here ourselves—[ he starts, while holding his head for a moment as he waits for his vision to come back. ] The feeling can be mutual. We need answers.
W1, Thursday
