[ The fog and the strange, distant noises(?) make for an oppressive atmosphere as they move deeper in the forest. It doesn't help that things have been tense at camp, Evan's death fresh in their minds and all the new 'rules' leaving them scrambling to figure out the truth.
But there's plenty of new ground to cover now, and they can't waste any time exploring it. So here they are, at this strange new cabin. Dimitri steps up beside Giyuu, who has already tried the more polite approach. He adds, ]

Pitch black darkness is all that greets them as the music that has been playing this whole time comes to an abrupt stop. Although the door is open, none of the light from outside filters in.

at the same time, instincts and reactions die hard and giyuu will reach out to, catch shinobu before she goes completely into the cabin itself. or, maybe, soften shinobu's fall...except there she just goes. right into the cabin. a cabin that has no light filtering inside of it despite the door being open. ]

Her eyes try to adjust to the darkness, and she takes a few more careful steps into the room. Even though she often works at night, she says: ]

[ In her hand materializes one of those light up LED ice cubes, but it's off and she doesn't know what it is, so it's absolutely useless right now.
[The thing is, if they're simply looking, they won't see shit. It's too dark inside the cabin to spot a convenient lightswitch via sight alone.
Which is, you know, bad considering the fact that the door slams shut behind them as soon as they're all inside. They will hear the sound of the lock clicking a second later.
but as soon as the door shuts and locks, it really does start to become clear as to what they're expecting—should be expecting here. which, you know, given how giyuu (somehow) made it through his mini-event being in the dark, he has. ]
These places have a habit of enjoying toying with us.
[ he'll start feeling around for anything that might feel like those switches and the like..? carefully, of course, as he walks until he can feel a wall? hopefully it's a wall and not something awful. ]
[ unfortunately, he can't see what shinobu is holding. but he does hear the tell-tale sound of a lock trapping them inside. his shoulders hop up in surprise, tensing, but he sets to work immediately, groping blindly in the dark, following the doorframe for some sort of switch and working his way out from there. it's a slow process he's trying not to trip over himself, or... whatever might be on the floor.
if not a switch, maybe he can find a window curtain to pull back, at least. ]

[ LISTEN, she doesn't know what it is, but since she has something new in her hands, she angles herself so she's not facing either Giyuu or Dimitri based on their voices. Next, she throws the item through the air in front of her to see hear how long it is before it'll hit anything.
Maybe it'll hit something and light up, or maybe they'll just stay in darkness forever. ]
[Cool! So here is what will happen when the gang does... these things.
1. Giyuu will take a couple of steps forward before he walks right into something solid. It is most definitely not a wall, because it hits him right in his mid-section. There is no way to tell what it is, but it is horizontal and flat.
2. As Dimitri feels up the wall to the left of the door, he will eventually find something that feels like a lightswitch. Will he flip it?
3. Shinobu tosses the cube to the right, and it takes 2.63 seconds to hear it smack against a solid surface. It sounds a little hollow when it makes contact, and something will gently creak in response.
[ is it a table? hopefully it's a table and nothing worse but who knows! giyuu's luck is terrible and this is what he deserves.
either way, the irony of this all is that he'll likely have walked right into it shortly after dimitri tells everyone to be careful. thumbs up for giyuu who just lets out a noise that's part grunt and part "oof"...and maybe a soft curse as a treat.
he's really should comment about the other noise he hears but doesn't because...well. whatever horizontal flat thing he ran into, which he is also now feeling. ...maybe pushing against? ]

[Luckily for them, what Dimitri finds is a fully functional lightswitch! The lights flicker on, illuminating the room and allowing them to get a sense of what they're dealing with.
Namely, it seems like they've wandered into a kitchen-slash-dining room. The door they walked through is smackdab in the center of the southern wall. All the kitchen appliances and furniture are to the left of the door. This includes a refrigerator, kitchen counters, a sink, a stove top, toaster oven, and cabinets. Directly in front of the door, just a couple of paces away, is a wooden dining room table with matching chairs on both the left side and right side, for a total of four chairs. Giyuu walked right into the side of the table when he shuffled his way deeper into the room. The table budges easily once he pushes it, and he's close enough to notice there are a couple of things on top of the table.
Meanwhile, Shinobu will find herself walking towards a door on the right side. It is slightly open, but not enough to see what's on the other side. The cube lays innocently on the floor a step or two away from it; it likely bounced back on contact. On the wall directly opposite to the front door (as, in the one they all walked through when entering), is yet another door. This one is closed.
Beyond that, the room isn't particularly furnished or anything. It seems like it has seen some recent use, judging by the lack of dust or cobwebs, but it's a little dirty in the way that suggests someone has neglected to sweep and mop the floors regularly. For shame.]
[ the sudden shine of light from pitch darkness is enough to have giyuu take a second to adjust but when he does, he'll slowly take in what they've found. or, at the very least, what is in front of him.

In the kitchen, the appliances have clearly seen some use. There are crumbs in the toaster oven, and drops of water lingering inside the sink. Dimitri can open the cabinets. The first cabinet he opens carries a set of chipped cups, plates and bowls. The next one has some... unusual pantry items. By which we mean someone herehas a reallyunbalanced diet.
