The music cuts off once Ookurikara tries the doorknob. It is immediately replaced by a cheeky little tune as the door then opens. Congratulations, Kara! You're a normal person. That said, it's eerily dark inside. Even though it's storming outside, there should be some modicum of light filtering through — but that's not the case. Try as they might, there's no way to see what's inside the cabin.
[ and then ash ran streaking into the darkness - no i don't know his life, we'll find out later. if steph is going left, kara will go right, and check the walls for a switch on that side. ]
[ and then ash ran streaking into the darkness, yelling as he we— no. it’s not ash’s first rodeo, so when kara moves right he’s already moving right to follow him, keeping one hand on the wall roughly at the level a light switch would be at.
if it’s on the right side, hopefully they’ll have it covered. ]
[Well... Belph's flashlight helps a little, but it also doesn't help at all. The light is weaker than it should be, flickering intermittently. Not only that, but what little they can see of the room is blurry and indistinct. In fact, it seems like it's shifting? Uh. It's hard to tell if that thing two feet away is a couch or a desk. What about that thing on the wall over there? A computer? A TV? A window? It changes in the blink of an eye.
Meanwhile, Steph, Kara and Ash will feel something strange when they place their hands on the walls. One moment it feels like drywall, the next it feels like dry glossy paint, and then next it feels like wallpaper. Despite their efforts, they won't find a light switch.
But as soon as all four of them are inside? The door, unsurprisingly, slams shut behind them. A voice begins to speak.]
Everyone, close your eyes.
[Immediately, the four of them will be compelled to obey. Furthermore, they will be unable to move. Each one of them will recognize this voice, even if the words and the tone are ill suited for the person that immediately comes to mind.]
I am the Narrator, and I will be giving you instructions. When I say jump, you will jump. When I say close your eyes, you will close your eyes. When you hear my voice in your ear, you will obey. Do you understand? Good.
Everyone, open your eyes.
[The wall beneath Steph, Kara and Ash's will solidify until dry glossy paint. When they open their eyes, they will find themselves in an office. Belph is pointing his flashlight at one of two couches on the right side of the picture. The door they entered through is behind them, and they will hear the lock click shut.]
It is daytime. Familiarize yourselves with your surroundings.
[ kara has Problems with his freedom being taken away. but, sure. we're in... whatever this room is, so kara's just going to keep one hand on his sword, ready for a fight, and go see if he can open some of those cabinets and if there's anything worthwhile in them. ]
I really don't wanna take orders from that voice. [ things i didn't mention, ash has his axe propped against his shoulder, and he's keeping a hand firmly on it, just in case. ]
"Familiarise yourself with your surroundings?"
[ i mean. he's looking around, so that counts, right? ]
[i will be kind and give y'all a nicer map for all our sakes. please rest, jan...
Anyway! Looking at their immediate surroundings, Ash will notice the set of seven lockers to the group's left, desks 1-4, the couches in and coffee table right in front of them, and the private office + cabinets to their right. There is nothing noticeably off about them... Though he's free to notice that this room doesn't seem to have windows. Hm.
Since the computer closes to the door is at Desk #1, that is where Steph shall nyoom. The computer seems to be already turned on! It will prompt her for a password. The background is set to a picturesque view of a twilit clocktower with the words DAYTIME: ? MINUTES REMAINING written in Comics San... Lovely. Now that she's at that desk, however, she will notice there are a couple of miscellaneous trinkets there, including a charming picture of a tall redheaded man, a significantly shorter brown haired women, and a blond teenage boy. Is that a family picture? Huh. A label with something written on it is also attached to the upper right corner of the monitor, if she would like to read it.
Meanwhile, if Kara is heading for the cabinets in the private office, he might also notice the computer on that desk is on — and there are a few items on top of the desk. The cabinets require a key to unlock... However, the doors are made out of glass and completely see through. Whew, someone has a really impressive wine collection!]
[Hold your horses, Belph! Stepping into the photocopy area, he will notice there are two photocopy machines and a metal shelf filled with different types of supplies. There is something on top of one of the two photocopy machines. Specifically, a box, a stack of pink paper slips, and a pen.
Checking computers 2, 3 and 4, Stephanie will find that they all need passwords. Similarly, they all have a label with something written on it in the upper right corner of the monitor. The computer at Desk #2 has a picture of an apple orchard as a background, #3 has a picture of a white room, and #4 has a picture of the sky.
On the desk in the private office, Ookurikara will notice a mug that says WORLD'S BEST GRANDPA; it is filled with pens, highlighters and pencils. There is a sticky note pad next to it. Something is written on the sticky note on top. A bell shaped paperweight is to the left of the keyboard. The computer is password protected as well, though the background is rather nice.]
[Well. Belph is free to try and steal them, but the box seems to be stuck to the top of the photocopy machine? Weird. He's free to take the paper slips and pen, however. Nice. The photocopy machines are fully functional. If he switches them on, he will find a list of documents in the queue.
The lockers that are against the wall are numbered, from left to right, 1 through 7. Steph is 100% free to open them. Is she opening all of them, or is she looking at one in particular?
The sticky note reads: Important meeting at 4:30PM. New competition is guaranteed to be a SMASHING success. Ookurikara will recognize the handwriting. Yes, Ray. It's exactly who you think it is.
[ she will start with 1, but will go through each locker. if any of them have something particularly interesting though she'll stop to examine it more closely. ]

it's to pick up a baseball bat and slam it against the doorknob. very obvious.
it does nothing. ]
Eh. Would have been cool.

you are all so dramatic. kara is just going to knock and try the doorknob. ]

Congrats, you're officially in charge of all puzzle-solving from now on.
[but also belph takes a flashlight out and turns it on, as he cautiously takes a step inside. do we have light now.]

steph, meanwhile, does not like this. but she's immediately nyooming to a computer to see if it will turn on and if there is anything useful here. ]
Oh, yeah. I am completely thrilled already. Nothing like an annoying voice giving foreboding instructions to start out a fun time.
