the best girl

first, i will maintain that shinobu is 100% steph's type in a girl, especially because steph likes girl who could beat her up but also ones who CARE about HELPING. we are lucky we are in a timeline where steph was already heart eyes at other people + was never put in a situation where she had to consider shinobu romantically (like what happened with dimitri). anyway, moving on.

steph admired shinobu a lot from the start! because shinobu was really good at handling people? if people were fooling around too much, or misbehaving in a way that was Bad, shinobu stepped up. like, it first became apparently when they were still on the bus and she shut anaido down after stdemongate. it showed that she was fairly responsible! it was neat and cool and steph wished that she, too, could one day make someone feel that bad about messing up. and that feeling continued over the next few weeks, because shinobu was rather dependable in trials and everyone seemed to respect her a lot and her opinion on things? and that is something steph wants?? like, she wants people to think she is capable and knows how to handle things, and that was the aura shinobu gave off and people relied on her so she was someone she just. looked up to from afar and appreciated having around.

what made her see her a lil differently was mostly belph. because steph asked him who he got along with, and the people he listed was a. very small list. but shinobu was on it, and steph!! was excited!! because she wanted belph to have friends, and while she didn't entirely know what their relationship was like, anyone who got along with belph was good to her so steph was just DRAWS A HEART AROUND SHINOBU for sticking with her boy. it was. very unfortunate that shinobu died the same week that jason did or else steph would have focused on her a lot more than she did, but. f.

but speaking of week 3... closes eyes. ok so like. while steph does do the whole, keep things to herself and acts like she is more okay than she actually is, she does in fact still like to? talk about stuff that bothers her? she needs to vent every now and then, basically, but everyone in fuckin crau was so anti talking about feelings it was funny. so even though steph was really stressed, and upset about people she cared about dying and then the w3 break-in happened, most people preferred to just talk about stuff like it was all fine and avoid feelings and. steph didn't blame them, or anything, but it's not really what she personally needed to process. but after the break-in, shinobu gave her a hug and said it was ok if things weren't fine, and basically let her just be. upset in her presence. and it meant a lot more to steph than she said! it was nice to be vulnerable in the presence of someone who wasn't belph, and she wanted to give shinobu the opportunity to be able to do the same

... except, you know, shinobu died right after that and i hate you for it. closes eyes. steph had hoped they could have been better friends, but hilariously you jumped from one of my characters into the arms of my other one, so that's fine. but also, steph would have agreed with shinobu on everything re: her arguments with hikage in the graveyard. it's so fuckin funny.
