oh well, live and let learn (or not live); giyuu is going to do his best and that's what matters the most. so, hello dimitri, hope you don't mind getting a sudden haunting from one giyuu tomioka who is dressed in a black sweat shirt and sweatpants (no haori) with both of his arms and hair tied back as it normally would be. hooray? honestly, he really wishes he was here on better terms and the like, but whatever it's fine? this is what they're given. also what's given is that he only has a short period of time to get things across he'll by pass the urge for any kind of greeting for formality and immediately point to dimitri's scrunchie.
he has it somewhere visible, right? hopefully it's somewhere visible? if it isn't, then he'll gesture for him to pull it out and show it to him. after that, he'll gesture to the rabbit ears. in particular, the inside of the ears? does it make sense? the fact that he'll be pointing to the scrunchie and then to the ears... maybe even drawing the outline of the ears with his fingers. show him the ears dimitri!!
depending on what he sees, it'll tell him what else he needs to do get across. ]

Are you trying to see what color they are...?
no subject
instinctively, he'll wander closer to see what the color is. ...not that it really matters since he wouldn't be able to touch it and fully examine it. hopefully dimitri will let him see it in it's entirety? ]
no subject
Is that the same color that you all have? [ he'll give a little pause between questions so giyuu can shake or nod his head for both. ] Do you know what changes it?
no subject
pink...
that's not what he wanted to see, but when dimitri mentions the color change, then maybe he already knows? that would help a lot. for now, he'll shake his head "no". unfortunately, he can't distinguish between the questions, but he will try to at least answer one of them in a manner that will hopefully make sense:
giyuu'll point to his wrist then point to the black sweat shirt that he's wearing. he'll do it three times but on the third time he'll point to dimitri's scrunchie, to his black sweat shirt, then to his wrist.
hopefully that's clear enough? he should understand that.
though, to capitalize on the time that he has, giyuu will attempt to mime out what his next question is. since dimitri knows about the changing of the ears, he'll raise one hand and start to raise one finger at a time—as though he was counting on something—before resetting it and doing it again. with his other hand, he'll point to the ear portion of the scrunchie. he'll do it two times before changing his movements to a side to side motion as though he was flipping a page of a book.
...did that make sense? ]

Are you asking me how many people have changed from pink to gold? If that's the case, I don't know. I've been told that someone changed on Sunday, several more on Monday, and then another few on Tuesday, but I don't have connections everywhere. It seems to be spreading across all the teams, but we've had a difficult time determining why... I'm gauging from your reaction that we need to change everyone's ears to gold. [ pink seems bad? ] I can attempt to get better numbers to send you this week, if that's what you want.
[ it'll take a minute, but maybe he can ask more broadly than he can ask team colors... ]
So, to be clear, you do not know what changes the ear colors either. Please shake your left leg if that is correct, and your right leg if it is not. Shake your right arm if you have more information for me about the ears in general. [ otherwise he's going to keep asking, because this ear thing is haunting him. bonus: all options make ghost-giyuu look silly.
but okay, again, time to think aloud. just nod or shake your head along if you can, giyuu. maybe they can at least establish a key, because i'm going to fuck this up real bad. ] But you are... trying to tell me how to change the dead's team color, perhaps? Let's see—your shirt represents a specific team, in this case Shadows. You are pointing to your wrist to indicate you are speaking about your team color. So... if we change your teams, it will affect you as well?
[ he's wearing a blue bracelet, so there's that too, if it helps at all. just for sad pointing charade times. ]

giyuu will be roasted because he couldn't communicate well enough to dimitri even though he did his absolute best. just as things should go. however, he's glad that dimitri is finally getting things together because it makes things easier for him. sure time is running out but at least they're making headway with all of this now. it's not a little too late yet. that said giyuu will answer dimitri's questions to the best of his ability in a way that's hopefully more obvious to him.
first, he'll shake his left leg as that was easy enough for him to convey given that it was a basic instruction that he was given. however, for the rest, he'll just nod his head. the bulk of dimitri's questions/thinking to him are a positive and things that he would like to know from him. giyuu will do his best to make it explicitly clear that when dimitri mentions the numbers of scrunchies that have turned are a positive as well as changing the teams affects them too by motioning a thumbs up with both of his hands while nodding emphatically.
good, good. those are both things that they need to know, especially the latter. whatever they decide to do, will affect them. sure, he probably looks absolutely ridiculous but he has to get his message across.
now, that is out of the way, giyuu pauses for a moment to think of how to convey the next bit of information that he knows in a way that's clear since he didn't quite come prepared for this bit. it's something that will be shared later but the more that he can make use of their time together, the better. so, he'll look for something green in the room while pointing to his face which then eventually evolves to him covering waving his hand over his face in a circular motion as though to cover it. is there anything green? if there isn't... he'll just have to hope that is enough for what he does next.
so regardless of whether he can or can't find something green in the room, he double downs to make the first bit clear enough for dimitri to catch on with the gestures over his face. hoping that will come off clear enough, he'll start making an "x" shape with his arms before making a throwing motion with his arms as though he's discarding something. he'll repeat this a few times going through the entire series to see if it helps. green (hopefully), an open palm circular motion over his face, "x" with his arms, then a throwing motion with his hands.
...is that good enough? giyuu knows that this one is hard and he'll show him an apologetic expression to dimitri. sorry he can't be anymore helpful than he has been. (has he even been helpful to begin with?) ]

for the sake of our sanity, they are at the library, and there are plenty of different color spines. so he looks at the green book giyuu is pointing at, ponderous. ]
...The jade mask?
[ from what he's been told... ]
I know we're trying to make a singular team. But... the jade mask should be left out? We should not include them with us? [ ... ] Are they our enemy...?
no subject
the next bit is where he wants to make clear since enough people have wasted their time on it (himself included). give him a bit to consider how the best way to think of this through and...it's a bit, but when he comes up with it, he moves decisively. again, he'll make the same motions that he did to indicate the jade mask—pointing to the green and then the circular motion over his face—before awkwardly using both of his hands to hold onto one another in a hand shaking motion. he'll repeat the series of motions twice—jade mask, hand shaking—before adding another thumbs up at the end of the final time.
that should answer what he has to say about that right? now for the second part—he goes back to the throwing motion that he did just a while earlier. again, he'll do this two times before adding a thumbs up at the end. once that has been, hopefully, properly communicated, giyuu will do the entire series together as one continuous action.
jade mask. hand shaking. thumbs up. throwing motion. thumbs up. jade mask. hand shaking. thumbs up. throwing motion. thumbs up.
...is that clear enough for dimitri?
hopefully it was because with that out of the way, there's a sense that his time is coming to a close. only one more thing that he's allowed to "say" before he's back to the land of the dead. for a while giyuu won't motion or move and considers what there's left to get across. well, there's plenty yet but giyuu decides that this is enough, for now. so, with the final moments of being allowed to "haunt" dimitri, he'll raise a hand up to dimitri's with his pinky slightly bent in a hook shape. it's not the kind of thing he'll do, but this is the clearest way that he knows how to communicate this.
of course, he knows that they can't touch but he completes the motion as though they could interact physically. he moves close enough to wrap his pinky around dimitri's and gives it a single shake before pulling back and gestures to everything around them with both his hands before crossing his right arm over his chest so that his fists rests over his heart. he isn't sure how clear this will come across but this is the best that he can do with the time he has left. with time finally ticking down the final seconds, giyuu gives him the smallest and slightest of smiles with his right arm still crossed over his chest before he's gone.
good luck dimitri. ]

Work with them...? Throw them out...? What else are we supposed to do?
[ He'll have to ask for a second opinion, but he wishes he had more time to just ask Giyuu instead—but alas, they're done. He floats his hand up to meet Giyuu's, confused, the quick-paced determination flickering to something sad. For all that they can communicate, Giyuu's still dead—they still have to save them. He couldn't save his life. He couldn't solve his murder.
So this is... all he can do, right? Is this really all he can do for everyone? There's no way to really complete the promise, but he tries to swear it anyway, squeezing his pinky tight, as though it's really there. ]
Giyuu! I'll send a letter—we're doing best, so please...
[ He's gone. ]
...Hang on.
